Insects found in Nestle Cerelac tin

After Maggi Noodles, the multinational brand Nestle has come under scanner with its infant food Cerelac which was brought to the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department containing a lot of weevils (type of carnivorous beetles).
Purchasing the product from a medical store in Coimbatore, software professional Sriram lodged a complaint with the department of Food Safety on Tuesday after his wife found weevils in the Cerelac packet meant for their his one-year-old son. Mr Sriram had checked the manufacturing date and expiry date to find it was old stock however, the packet read the manufacturing date as February 2015 and the expiry date was February 2016.
A complaint has been registered by the food safety department and a testing order on random samples from pharmacies and retailers has been issued and food inspectors have been asked to pick samples from the same batch. The results of the samples that have been sent to the labs are expected in a fortnight.
